Execution Intelligence System

An Execution Intelligence System is software that connects an organization's delivery tools — project trackers, code hosts, planning documents — into one continuously updated model of how work is actually progressing, then uses that model to surface risk, support decisions, and let teams act before problems compound.

It differs from project management tools (which track work) and engineering analytics (which report metrics) in that it models the connections: how strategy links to initiatives, initiatives to sprints, sprints to people and capacity and code. The test of an execution intelligence system is whether it can answer causal and forward-looking questions — why did this slip? what happens if we reprioritize? — with evidence, not just display status.

The term gained currency in the mid-2020s as flattening organizations distributed project-management responsibility across roles, creating demand for shared execution understanding rather than specialist reporting.
