Connect a Team to GitHub

Pick a GitHub project and repository, map its Iteration, Status, and Estimate fields, and link the repositories a team works in.

Open in Everview

Connecting a team to GitHub means picking a project and then mapping which GitHub Projects fields carry iteration, status, and estimate data.

Connect the project

  1. Open Teams from the Organization Menu, then create or open a team.
  2. Set the Team name, then choose a connected GitHub account under Organization — this must already be turned on from Connect a Provider for Your Organization.
  3. Under Data Source in GitHub, choose the Project and a Default repository.

Map the fields

Still under Data Source in GitHub, set Iteration field, Status field, and Estimate field to the matching custom fields on your GitHub Project. Then map your project's status values into Map to New, Map to Indeterminate, and Map to Done — each accepts multiple statuses.

Only these three fields are mappable today — there's no size, priority, parent-issue, sub-issue-progress, or milestone mapping in this screen.

Link repositories

Below the data source, the Repositories section lets you add or remove which repos this team owns for insights — this works for any team as long as the organization has a GitHub connection turned on, even if the team's primary data source is Jira.

What to do about it

Click Create Team to save, then set the team's default issue type, capacity, and allocation in Set Team Capacity and Workflow Preferences.
